I have been taking the Hc45 Hydrocortisone Cream which I got from Boots (OTC) for seven days and it has made a great improvement. I’ve taken the plaser off as its no longer bleeding or itching but it still looks a bit gross. I put the cream on the eczema on my arms which had only been there for about a week and its almost all gone.
The Hc45 should only be taken for seven days and those seven days are up but I’m going to continue for two more days as I’ve seeing the doctor then.
I’ve been avoiding using any kind of steroid cream all my life but am now kicking myself I left it so long to try them. I hope I am not jumping the gun and it doesnt stop working and the eczema comes back.

Well the eczema went after a few weeks of using the HC45 Cream and some Eumovate cream. Its just started to come back slightly so have begun using the cream again.
…and the Eumovate cleared it up again. Skin is still red though.
Hi there,
I only use steriod creams on those days when all my home remedies do not work. I try to rarely use it. I know it works but it does affect you skin in the long term and if you use it with wet wraps, some say (unfortunately not verified) that it does go into the blood stream.
Ask your doctor about Protopic. I think its now available on the NHS. Its a non-steriod based cream for Eczema that apparently clears up the skin in one year. However my research on the net says in some patients it causes cancer.
I’ve asked my dermatologist about that point and he said because its a new drug that’s why. And that steriods and one point had the same experience. But nowadays there are so many types of steriods for eczema.
Let me know how you fair. My blog is http://www.atopiceczema.wordpress.com

I know this won’t sound like a very extreme way to go, but I suggest trying taking some zinc, and Evening primrose oil. The zinc helps with your immune system, and helps keep your skin not so dry, and the evening primrose oil is an essential fatty acid that might help. I’ve advised these for my girlfriend; and she’s just about to start them. They have no side-effects, they’re like any other vitamin; and they’re relatively cheap.
Zinc you should see results in a few days, Evening primrose oil might take up to 30.. Best of luck to you!!
Thanks, I’ve ordered some Zinc and will give it a try when it arrives.
Can you develope eczema? I dont think i was born with it but i have a ring around my finger where i wear my rings and it looks alot like eczema. and it itches
As a guess I’d say most people aren’t born with it. Although saying that it is said to be caused by a genetic defect so I guess you could be born to be susceptible to it but just not have anything trigger it until later on in life.
That sounds like you have contact dermatitis:

remove the ring if you can and see if it goes away, if not try some cream. Eumovate will probably clear it up but it will come back when you stop using it.

Good luck.
Why? Why? Why, must we have eczema? It’s like a curse. My brothers and I have had it since we were babies. My brother’s went away with age and I’m still stuck with it. Now my daughter has it extremely bad, and there’s not a whole lot we can do for her since she’s so young. I’m just glad to hear other people, when I was growing up I felt like I was diseased and I didn’t know anyone else who had it, it sucks, but it’s nice to know I’m not the only one.
It does feel like a curse I agree. When I was little it was just me, my mother and my brother who had it.
I still don’t know anyone else who has it but the internet shows there are many others with eczema.
Maybe one day there will be a cure.
My daughter is 4, and for the past 2 months I thought she was out growing this , but again with the onset of spring, she is in a new flare up. Not enough research is being done . No one knows how horrible and itchy this is!!!! I feel so bad for her. Nothing works!!! Good luck,
I had eczema as a child and then I developed it again in my teens and it got really bad in my early twenties. I went to see a homeopath and after admittedly a long time, my eczema is now almost entirely gone! At one point I never thought I would have normal skin again but it has happened and I now only get it in a couple of areas and can now even use pefumed products on my skin which used to make me feel physically sick. I know homeopathy doesn’t work for everyone but if you haven’t tried it and you can find a good, possibly recommended homeopath (mine used to be a dermatologist so she knows skin inside out) I think its worth a go! Hope this helps. I remember how awful it was and it doesn’t need to be like that forever.
Try the traditional methods of the Berbers of Morocco, poulticing with Rhassoul clay, and the well tried and tested methods of the French naturopaths, edible French clay (if you are not already on other medicines). Both can be purchased from Natural Spa Supplies Ltd. These clays have a strong negative charge and draw out the toxins through the skin (or digestive tract). They pick up pesticides, hebicides and heavy metal excesses and as they are a sun-dried crystal impart some sort of healing energy from the sun - probably quite helpful seems we’ve had such a rainy summer. The clay seems to work also as an anti-microbial, killing bacteria and viruses and has some sort of analgesic effect. This will help reduce the scratching and secondary skin damage. It is easy to do your own treatments at home.
Hydrocortisone worked for me when nothing else did. I dread to think about the recurrence though. I hope it’s not coming back again. Anyhow, here’s my post (http://emberglow.wordpress.com/2008/11/25/the-best-eczema-dermatitis-itchy-rash-cure/) on that. It is rather long and rambling but well in case someone is looking for a litany on eczema!
My eczema started about 10+ years ago after I was laid off. It comes and goes but there are always large patches that are very stubborn. I’m also stubborn and many times forget to apply anything after a shower. Ahh a super hot shower and freshly cut fingernails sure feels great but after drying off….it’s all downhill from there.
I’ve tried oatmeal baths, tar baths, and OTC stuff and prescription stuff. I hate to use anything at all because I don’t like the greasy feeling so I know I’m contributing to the lengthy stay of this unwelcome friend.
Right now I’m applying Clobetasol and some concoction (5% LCD + 5% Salicilic Acid in Triamcinolone) that the pharmacists made. It stinks and it’s greasy, but it minimizes the blood and scabs under my fingernails.
Sad to say, but I’m glad to see other sufferers out there. It is embarrassing when people stare at my legs or hands and i never see any others around so I feel like a leper. The part that kills me is watching my 3 year old son scratch is spots then when he makes them bleed it’s even more painful to see it.
Anyways, just wanted to vent. If anyone has a magic pill I can take with no side effects, let me know. Until then, I just have to try and push myself to lube up atleast twice a day!
Happy Holidays!
Hi scratchit, just found your blog via google - wondering whether you have got rid of your eczema, and how. The pic looks exactly what I have had since last year August and so far it only got better when using steroid cream. But then instructions say that shouldn’t be used longer than 6 weeks, and the eczema came back. Thanks!
does this spread cause i have it in the same place on my hand and im starting to think that i have a skin didease or somethin
