P-Vate Side Effects

November 22, 2009
By

In a previous post I mentioned I was using an eczema cream sold as P-Vate.  I was told by the pharmacist it was quite strong and I’ve been using it on my fingers around the nail area as I have a few patches of eczema there.

After a week or two of use I’ve noticed some of my nails have gone a bit crinkly, kind of like they have gone soft and been dented a bit.

Could this be that the eczema cream has softened the nails?  Or perhaps it is just a coincidence, either way I will be a bit more careful when applying the cream so as not to get any on the nails.

    Hello,

I’m graphic designer, and I’m working on a leaflet about “orthopaedics prosthesis and allergies”, with a little group of french surgeon.

This leaflet will be distributed to french orthopaedics surgeons during a Congress on January 2010.

We’d like to use a picture from your website (this one : http://scratchit.files.wordpress.com/2007/04/20070331_eczema-01.jpg)

Would you be kind to give us permission for using this image ?

Thanks a lot. I’m waiting for your answer.

Yes it is fine to use that image. If you could put a link to this site on the leaflet that would be great. I’d be interested to read it if you have an online copy.

    Thanks

    Hi Scratch,

Thanx a lot for your answer. I will use your image and put your website address on the signature of the leaflet.
I don’t think will have an online copy, and unfortunately it will be a french version only, but I could send you a PDF if you want to see what it look like.

    Thanks again and Merry christmas

    Hey there!

Thanks for your descriptive blog. It saddens me to see people who have suffered from eczema for a long time and have spent a lot of money on treatments but still no good results!

Please visit my website and if you think it’s worth mentioning please do so. I think/hope sharing my knowledge will help a lot of people.

Here’s a simple explanation for what eClinic is:

I offer a specialist allergy opinion, on line at the comfort of your own house, at the food allergy eClinic.

It’s simple, If you or your children have chronic symptoms such as eczema (itchy and scratchy skin), or tummy troubles such as gastric reflux, sore tummies, diarrhoea, constipation or brain things like being cranky, moody and irritable … and you want to do something about it … then think “Maybe it’s a food allergy”, “maybe it’s a food intolerance” or “maybe it’s a gluten reaction”

A visit to the eClinic costs $45 for three months consultation. It can easily help with these sorts of problems.
All you need to do, is put in your symptoms (on your computer keyboard) as the questions are asked. Then once you have answered about a hundred questions, you will get an immediate report from me. You print this out and take to your doctor. Your doctor will read it with you, and help you organise the tests that you might need to get. Next, you put the test results back into the computer (using another set of guiding questions) and you get another report, instantly! This gives you the specific interpretation of those blood test results … and advises you what you can do to get better again.

    It’s useful
I invite you to visit the eClinic and make your own diagnosis online, with my expert allergy opinion.

A friend share a nutritional company with me. After battling eczema with my 3 yr old and my 10 month old. I was at odds. Tired of the creams that cause cancer I decided to try these products. The products were patented as a whole food. The dermatologist told us the eczema was a immune deficiency so I thought it could be battled by good nutrition. I tried the products and I am not kidding in 2weeks my kids were clear of eczema. I have emailed my story to the eczema foundation and they asked to publish it. I would love to share with you more about this product. It is safe and it is food. I love it. I no longer have to wet my kids clothes to keep them from sticking to their skin. I do not have to worry about creams that are on the FDA block box list. I love this product and I want to give others hope. Please email me and I will be happy to share with you the hope that someone gave me.
    Thanks for your time

I can only imagine that it’s the steroids crinkling the nails. I mean, if you’re putting enough cream on them to make them wrinkly from moisture (like a bathtub might), you’d almost certainly be using too much active ingredient as well. Keep ‘em separate, keep ‘em safe, I say. Or, switch to a less potent solution.

I didn’t know that an eczema treatment can have such side-effects. It really makes me wonder about how to treat eczema

  8. SpectraCell Laboratories on September 30, 2010 at 5:08 pm

I am with SpectraCell Laboratories and I would like to recommend another way to possibly treat/cure your eczema. We provide a nutritional deficiency test called micronutrient testing which states what nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants…you may be deficient in. Zinc deficiencies, which we test for, has been correlated to eczema. Please read one of our blog posts about an employee of ours who suffered from eczema and migraines (http://info.spectracell.com/bid/46798/How-SpectraCell-s-Micronutrient-Testing-Cured-My-Eczema-and-Migraines). Also, check out our education center for resources on eczema and nutritional deficiencies (http://www.spectracell.com/online-library-mnt-eczema-abstracts/). I hope you consider micronutrient testing to see if you are deficient in any nutrients that may cause eczema.

    Dear Scratch,

Seems like you’re not currently writing this blog– a shame, because there’s not too many thoughtful eczema blogs out there and it would be nice to have a vocal community.

P-Vate, as you note, is clobetasol propionate. Check it out on Wikipedia. In the US, where I live, it is listed as a class 1 steroid, the strongest possible. I’d be EXTREMELY careful with this stuff and use it only when absolutely necessary.

Follow my blog, endeczema.blogspot.com, if you’re interested in cutting-edge eczema research and therapies (Western medicine, not alternative or homeopathic).

    Cheers,

    SK

Hey, I too tried those but it didn’t do anything to actually cure my dyshidrotic eczema! I started using oatmeal and honey as a homemade eczema cream – my friends used it and they said it also helped with facial eczema, please let me know if it helps – Dyshidrotic Eczema
